In memory of Sharon Bush

Established in memory of Sharon Bush, a $500 prize is awarded in the spring of each year to a Rice undergraduate who has demonstrated exemplary dedication and leadership in building bridges across racial and cultural boundaries on campus and in the community. Who is eligible?

Rising junior or super senior in any discipline. Award open to all students.

Criteria

  • Student must have a 2.8 GPA or higher
  • Student must have demonstrated ability to achieve positive outcomes for the Rice and greater community with a focus on underrepresented students in K – 12 or college age.
  • Demonstrated consistent service to organizations or groups who focus on reaching out to underrepresented students in K-12 or college age.
  • A proven track record of compassion for other students at Rice or in the greater Houston community with a focus on underrepresented K-12 or college age.
  • Demonstrated ability to network and collaborate with other students and organizations on behalf of underrepresented students in K-12 or college age.
  • Must return to Rice the following semester after receipt of the award.
